This is how it started
Last week, around 10:00 I happened to check the history of the posts in the homosexual marriage discussion and saw that Ron had started to read them. I was like, "what the hell, no one ever reads this conference". I thought that same thing when Megan and martin started to chime in. So, I started to get a little worried, being that the nature of the conversation was a bit controversial and that Megan and Martin were not happy about me having this dialog. so, of course, about a half hour later, Ron walks in and Brian (the director of Facilities) asks me to come in his office. I was told that someone had alerted him of the conversation going on BUBBS, and that he (Ron) had some concerns. and then he pulled out a printed copy of my BUBBS resume. They drilled me about the homosexuality thing for a while, and I told them that I was not arguing about the theology of homosexuality, but the legal ramifications of making homosexuality illegal (as I clearly stated in the conference). I told them that I was not sure if it was a sin at this time, but that as of right now I would say it is a sin, but no greater of a sin than anything else (though I am not sure if I even believe it is a sin, but I had to protect myself). Amazingly, they were okay with what I said about homosexuality. They essentially said that they can see that perspective, and that I just need to be careful about what I say, and be very clear in what I say. Though, they were very clear in saying that Biola does not accept homosexuality, and it is very much against what Biola stands for. Comments, Pingbacks:

So this is why i got a blog, so I can talk about all the crap that I want.
Sweet! that sucks about your bubbs silencing.

well, i wasn't really silenced, just censored. i had to take things off my resume (i just removed the whole thing - and man, i spent a lot of time on that! but i still have a copy in my email), and was told to not take stances that went against biola's doctrine. could have been worse, they threatened to let me go.

That Martin guy is a douchebag. I haven't wanted to slap someone in the face this bad in a long time.
congrats on the blog. It's bookmarked.
yea, between him and Loree, it has been a long last few days. but hey - what are you going to do? my part is over.

Actually, Loree was the lesser of the evils for once!

I know, although my guess is that Loree directed them to the conference. No one ever reads the legislative issues folder!

Things like this always happen at this school, but I can never get over it.
If they didn't want the staff to get involved on bubbs, then they should have kept them off of it. This IS a place for an exchange of ideas, and if someone like Dave doesn't challenge people's minds, then all we're going to have is a bunch of the Martins, shoving unthought-out beliefs down students' throats.
It's incredibly frustrating to see the things they get upset over, and how they handle situations like these. A direct visit from Ron (whether he's been "trained" for it or not) is beyond what is necessary for the harmless things Dave's resume had on it.
The funny thing here, to me, though, is that all the huffy people who are posting lengthy posts are employees who are all posting during their work day. No one seems to have a problem with that, but they have a problem with me posting a sentence in Chaos here and there during the day.
Anyway, Dave, welcome to my league! My posts get read by Taylor, and yours get read by Ron! And both of us get in trouble for stupid reasons!

I actually thought Ron did a pretty good job. He was forced into taking action and seemed reasonable about the whole thign (to me anyway).
I put him on my very short list of reasonable Biola admins.

yea, he is not my favorite either, but did appreciate how he dealt with the situation. He respected me alot more than most people around here would, and didn't make as big of a deal as he could have. it could have been worse....
Accept you are wrong? I did not break one rule that I agreed to. I was having a simple conversation about homosexuals (not homos) having the legal right to marry. There is nothing in Biola's handbook about that. I wish they would have fired me - that would have been perfect: I could have gotten out of a crappy job and sued the crap out of Biola!

All of you are missing the point! When a person signs a contract to either attend a school, or become a staff member, they are agreeing to follow the rules of the school. Your personal opinions are second to the school's official stance.
If you can't accept this, then don't join the organization! No one's forcing you to attend Biola, go somewhere that accepts homos as normal. The first amendment does not supercede the Bible!
Dave, I have no idea who or what you are, but if I had been your boss, you'd been fired immediately. If you want to be a rebel, I'd told you to go be James Dean somewhere else!
