Music Ravings
- Who Will Save Your Soul - Jewel, from Pieces of You
- I have always been a big fan of Jewel - especially her first album. Her voice is awesome, and I love the raw feel of this CD.
- Pointsettia's Here [live] - Madison Greene, from Live
- As I have said before - the best Christian band there is. This song is about hypocrisy and diversity within the church, and it is even better because it is live.
- Digee Dime - Burlap To Cashmere, from Anybody Out There?
- I have no idea why this band did not do more than they did. Extremely talented, and they put on a great live show.
- Bad Little Doggie [live] - Gov't Mule, from Gov't Mule - 10/18/01 - Disc 1 - Roseland Ballroom (NY, NY)
- Live music is beautiful. I have said that before? This is from a Gov't Mule show back in 2001, when Allen Woody was still alive and well.
- Dawn of the Dreads - Arrested Development, from 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of...
- Arrested Development has always been my favorite rap group. They are/were talented, wrote great songs, and did not fall into rapping about the crap that today's hip hop stars sing about. I recently saw them on Hit Me Baby 1 More Time, the "comeback" reality show. They were still great.
- All Along the Watchtower [live] - U2, from Rattle and Hum
- What happens when you take one of the greatest bands of the last 25 years and have them play one of the greatest classic songs of all time? A masterpiece.
- Orgullecida - Buena Vista Social Club, from Buena Vista Social Club
- The greatest Cuban jazz you will find. It really is too bad that it took so long for this to reach mainstream America.
- Pharaoh's Dance - Miles Davis, from Bitches Brew Disc 1
- This is my favorite Miles Davis album. Miles Davis is probably the greatest jazz trumpet player to ever pick up the instrument, and with Bitches Brew he really started to experiment in new ways. Many jambands owe a lot to this album.
- What Could be So Grand - Seeds, from Parables, Prayers, and Songs
- 60's folk rock at its finest, but written and performed in the late nineties...
- Shantytown [live]- The Big Wu, from Galaxy Theater - 10/23/01 - Set 1
- Have I mentioned that I love live music? The Big Wu is an extremely underrated jamband, yet have a pretty loyal following. They truly have progressed from their origins as a Grateful Dead cover band.
This is a great mix this week. Yes, I know that many of the bands repeat themselves each week. I have many songs by some of these bands, so they keep repeating themselves. But that is okay...because they are great bands.
But this week is a list that I am definitely proud of.
