Weekly links from the "best" of The Daily Scribe.

I really recommend that you head over there and grab some RSS feeds...there are some great writers in the collective. I have also added links to all of the scribe members over on the right.

So here is what I liked this week:

  • Mark Goodacre, over at NT Gateway Blog, had a great post on NT Wright and trusting the Gospels. Goodacre teaches at Duke, so he is pretty smart. :)
  • Nathan Colquhoun, over at Based on a True Story, has some questions about the "evangelical church":

I’m starting to have doubts about the 'evangelical church.' Despite all the quotes we've all heard like "the church is a whore but she is my mother" and other likewise, I’m growing more skeptical as my experiences start to find themselves enveloped by its large wings.

  • Mike, a Buddhist at Unknowing Mind, has a great post titled Exploration of Compassion in a World of Violence:

I am a relative pacifist. So I often question, "Do we even need violence? Can we live without violence? Should we, given our animal-nature?"

Most people would agree that love and compassion should be shown in most situations. But what about in an Israel-Lebanon type scenario? Hezbollah kidnaps 2 of your soldiers, how do you respond? Are peaceful, compassionate protests and negotiations viable? Or does that just encourage further incursions? ...

  • C. Wess Daniels, at gathering in light, has some thoughts on fear and Christianity:

Jesus reminds the church that we are to be characterized by peace and not fear - the world gives us fear; the media, the government, our businesses and schools are often characterized by fear, but the Spirit is not. ... When we are afraid we are closed down to the deep calls of the Gospel, the Gospel makes little sense to those who love their safety more than the salvation of the world.

Safety is an idol of American Christianity.
Vulnerability is necessary for a life of faith. When we are made vulnerable our true master is revealed: power, money, the government, education, prestige, or the simple Gospel Jesus.

  • And finally...Adam, at pomomusings, shows his world to a little neighbor boy.

And a welcome to some newbies:
