Thousands of Christians hold anti-war service in D.C.:

Thousands of Christians prayed for peace at an anti-war service Friday night at the Washington National Cathedral, kicking off a weekend of protests around the country to mark the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq.

Afterward, participants marched with battery-operated faux candles through snow and wind toward the White House, where police began arresting protesters shortly before midnight. Protest guidelines require demonstrators to continue moving while on the White House sidewalk.
...
The ecumenical coalition that organized the event, Christian Peace Witness for Iraq, distributed 3,200 tickets for the service in the cathedral, with two smaller churches hosting overflow crowds. The cathedral appeared to be packed, although sleet and snow prevented some from attending.

"This war, from a Christian point of view, is morally wrong -- and was from the beginning," the Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners/Call to Renewal, one of the event's sponsors, said toward the end of the service to cheers and applause. "This war is ... an offense against God."

Friends of mine said that is was a powerful experience, standing up against the forces of violence.

Let us continue to pray that these forces of violence will end. That they cycles of death will be no longer. That we will stop looking at destruction and killing as a means to peace.

Was the gospel preached to the lost during this rally? Was anyone saved from their sins and from the wicked world through faith which comes by hearing the gospel of Yeshua HaMashiach, which is His Deity in Tri - Unity with the Father YHVH and the Spirit Ruach Hakadosh, His birth to the then - virgin Miriam, His death on a cross as payment of our sins to reconcile us with Father YHVH to end the war between the Father and man thereby fulfilling His Title "prince of peace" (read "The War Is Over" at this link http://awmi.net/extra/article/war_over), and that He was resurrected from the dead by the power of His Divine Blood, overpowering death and the grave, so that we also might be resurrected (and to prove that He was whom the Jews call the Moshiach) to life evermore as was He, not by works but through faith alone? If just one person received salvation by virtue of the gospel as a result of the march on Washington by all of these Christians, then the event was a success. Otherwise, it was all in vain, and all for nought. Thank you.

Not everything has to be an altar call.

But since you raise the question, I'd like to argue that these Christians' presence is a great witness to the world. For too long Christians in the news have been exclusively anti-abortion and anti-gay activists.

If people see there are other Christians who take other stances on moral and political issues, that can only broaden their perspective of Christianity. And I think that has the potential to bring a lot more people to the faith.

They would have been better off protesting Iran, Ba'ath, Hamas, etc.

But it's much easier/safer in the National Cathedral.

/also hates war and wishes our enemies hadn't started them

it's not going to stop one single car bomb, beheading, chemical attack, etc. The bad guys in the world don't care about your protests. In fact, they probably love them because a, it supports their cause, and b, it puts more people in one spot that are easier to kill.

Praying that the forces of violence (the jihadists) lay down their arms is about the only thing we CAN do but I don't think it's gonna happen until Jesus comes back.

They're protesting the wrong people! But protestign the right people would probably get them beheaded or worse.
